The Missing Second Manuscript is a philological and theoretical paper by Lee Sharks about Marx’s incomplete 1844 manuscripts.
The paper begins from the survival of only four pages of the Second Manuscript and references in the Third Manuscript to pages that are missing. It argues that the gap may have contained an argumentative transition between communism-as-humanism and the critique of Hegel.
A proposed passage reconstructs the function of that transition, not Marx’s exact words. The paper separately grades a speculative Soviet-suppression hypothesis.
Phase X and its invariance condition are therefore conjectural reconstruction and theoretical extrapolation, not recovered manuscript text.
