The Geocoded Basin is a platform specification by Lee Sharks, Johannes Sigil, and Rex Fraction for geographically anchored content.
The system replaces the conventional post with a deposit whose coordinates, timestamp, author handle, protocol version, and content form a reconstruction kernel for a place. Marks are intended as durable records; Impressions expire; Echoes connect two locations without copying the original; and Seeds reveal information only at specified coordinates. Users visit basins rather than follow accounts, and reputation is earned locally.
The platform’s proposed ethics are expressed through tempo and ranking. There is no global feed, trend score, posting streak, or engagement-weighted distribution. Deposits are chronological and geographic, with limits intended to favor deliberate witnessing over content volume. A basin with sufficient deposits, history, and independent depositors could generate a structured entity definition and, in selected cases, an archival identifier.
The specification includes a data model, spatial queries, device and velocity checks, witness verification, and a Detroit pilot plan. It remains a proposal. Its handling of precise location, deletion ghosts, pseudonymous accountability, minors, private property, sensitive sites, harassment, and moderation would require detailed privacy, safety, and legal design before deployment.
