Overview Watch is a proposed browser extension and research infrastructure designed by Lee Sharks. The planning document is associated with the Johannes Sigil Institute for Operative Semiotics.

The extension would identify AI Overview blocks on Google search pages, preserve their text and citation structure, and compare the sources with a user-maintained list of publications, domains, names, and characteristic phrases. Captures would remain local by default. Users could inspect longitudinal attribution statistics and optionally contribute selected, reviewed records to a shared research corpus.

The development plan treats consent and data minimization as architectural requirements. It proposes per-overview opt-in, query redaction, local operation without a server, revocable participation, and open publication of aggregated corpus snapshots. It also sketches resilient DOM detection, asynchronous observation, a matching engine, local schemas, and a minimal ingestion backend.

Overview Watch was a draft plan rather than a released product at the time of deposit. Phrase overlap cannot by itself prove that an overview derived from a particular work, and the proposed “absorbed” classification would require careful evidentiary thresholds. Privacy, security, browser-store, platform-policy, copyright, and research-ethics review would be necessary before implementation.
