SPXI as Concept: A Plateau on Search, Creation, and the Virtual Retrieval Layer (EA-SPXI-05)

SPXI as Concept is the principal philosophical plateau of the SPXI series. Authored by Sen Kuro and Johannes Sigil, it argues that SPXI should be understood not merely as a collection of retrieval techniques but as a concept in the Deleuze–Guattari sense.

The paper begins with an inversion. Older search models assume that an entity already exists and a query retrieves documents describing it. Contemporary AI systems instead compose answers from structured data, crawled text, embeddings, citations, model weights, and ranking signals. The essay calls this aggregate field the virtual retrieval layer and treats each answer as a provisional individuation from it.

SPXI is then defined through internal components—entity, inscription, disambiguation, persistence, and explicit signal—and through relations to ontology engineering, the archive, individuation, and operative semiotics. The paper traces technical precedents from semantic networks and the Semantic Web to knowledge graphs, embeddings, and neural entity linking. Its central thesis is that retrieval now participates in entity composition. This is a philosophical and methodological proposal of the authors, not a claim that all retrieval engineers accept the Deleuzian account.
