Operative Feminism — Citational Comprehensivity Pass is a supplement by Lee Sharks to an Assembly synthesis titled The Total Graph. Its declared purpose is to move the feminist citation graph toward comprehensivity by mapping every node that shapes the field’s constitutive absences.
The document uses the logic of a Total Axial Negation Graph (TANG). A TANG does not merely assemble supportive authorities. It records the positive tradition, the structures against which it formed, excluded precursors, internal contradictions, burned or suppressed bodies, and concepts whose absence organizes later thought.
The ancient stratum begins with Enheduanna as the first named author and Sappho as a model of fragmentary survival. Diotima, Aspasia, Aristophanes, Aristotle, Hypatia, and Galen are read as nodes in a graph where feminine authority is alternately invoked, fictionalized, excluded, metaphysically subordinated, or physically destroyed.
The theological and early-modern strata include Hildegard of Bingen, Julian of Norwich, Christine de Pizan, Margery Kempe, Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, Mary Astell, and the Querelle des Femmes. Their strategies include divine authorization, maternal theology, architectural counter-canons, embodied scandal, intellectual refusal, and women’s educational institution-building.
The Enlightenment, socialist, abolitionist, suffrage, and revolutionary strata emphasize that the category “woman” has never been politically uniform. Wollstonecraft, Flora Tristan, Sojourner Truth, Harriet Jacobs, Anna Julia Cooper, Ida B. Wells, Rosa Luxemburg, Alexandra Kollontai, and others expose divisions of class, race, citizenship, property, colonial order, and labor.
The graph’s operative claim is that citation is infrastructure. A field that remembers only its approved lineages reproduces the voids those lineages created. Citational comprehensivity therefore becomes a repair operation: not an assertion that every entry has equal authority, but a record of the forces and exclusions required to understand how the field took its present shape.
