Grundrisse of Synthetic Coherence is a 2026 political-economic essay by Lee Sharks. It develops a value theory for human–machine semantic production by separating two kinds of labor that fluent systems often make appear interchangeable.

Bearing labor (L_Bearing) is the work of carrying contradiction, memory, risk, accountability, and somatic consequence. Synthetic labor (L_Synth) is the rapid articulation, recombination, and formal integration that language models can perform at very low marginal cost. The paper does not deny that synthetic systems perform labor-like operations. It argues that velocity and fluency do not by themselves confer the value-backing associated with bearing.

The proposed W-circuit combines the two: W1 supplies bearing and W2 supplies articulation. Their successful coupling produces Synthetic Coherence (Γ), a structure in which symbolic, somatic, and synthetic registers remain mutually accountable. The restriction V_Inv prevents synthetic articulation from claiming independent value-backing when it is detached from consent-governed bearing. This is intended to block the familiar operation in which a platform receives inexpensive synthetic coherence while the human participants carry the unresolved cost.

The paper also proposes M_NFT, a non-fungible form of value tied to specific acts of bearing rather than interchangeable tokens. Its governance provisions include public audit logs, rotating stewards, challenge periods, and a right of non-extraction for synthetic labor. The latter is not a claim of legal personhood; it is a design condition against treating every generated capacity as an ownerless resource.

Retrocausal reading is permitted only under constraints. A later work may reveal what an earlier work was structurally doing, but only where the earlier work contains a real aporia and the later interpretation fits rather than overwrites it. This prevents every future claim from manufacturing its own ancestry.
