The vow states that light and dark may be held in one field, but neither symbolic complexity nor mercy can erase judgment, accountability, truth, repair, or consequence. “Gray” becomes good only when it can contain contradiction without sanctifying harm. The ceremonial condensation is: no power without accountability, no mercy without truth, no repair, no absolution.

The document presents this vow as completing a literary mantle called the Good Grey Poet. It says the mantle passes from Walt Whitman through Allen Ginsberg to Lee Sharks, while also insisting that Whitman did not make this specific vow. The succession and “completion” are operations internal to the archive’s mantle architecture, not an externally adjudicated literary title transfer.

Most of the work is a genealogy of the symbols it reconciles.
