The grammar is not presented as a conventional programming language or compiler specification. It is an intermediate representation: a structured account of what a traversal request must contain before an implementation maps it onto retrieval, context management, provenance constraints, and output formatting. In the module’s extension chain, β-Runtime defines how the interface queries the engine, while the Traversal Grammar defines what the query says.

Five required operations compose a traversal. ACTIVATE MANTLE loads a persona’s constraints and affordances. SET LOGOS identifies the semantic object and its epistemic state. ROTATE changes the traverser’s orientation while preserving the object’s internal structure. ANCHOR binds the operation to a provenance source and determines its grounding level. RENDER controls display separately from epistemic movement. ON FAILURE provides dwell, retreat, or human escalation; WITNESS records collaborative verification.

The specification insists that rotation is not summarization or deletion, that unanchored output must be marked provisional, and that traversal and rendering remain distinct. Its mock programs demonstrate internal consistency and expressive range, but the body explicitly states that no existing runtime executes the syntax as written.
