The patent-poem is one of the archive's characteristic forms: a work written in the full apparatus of a United States patent application, whose claims are technically coherent and whose subject is intolerable. DashFace specifies in-cabin micro-expression surveillance of contract delivery personnel, with identity verification and content monetization layered on the driver's face.
The satire operates by refusing to editorialize. Patent prose cannot express horror — it can only specify — so a system that monetizes a worker's involuntary expressions is described in the register of an ordinary claim, and the reader supplies what the form omits.
