Pearl and Other Poems is a poetry collection by Lee Sharks, published by New Human Press, Ann Arbor, in 2014 as part of The Pocket Humans Series, with an introduction by Johannes Sigil — 155 pages, and the foundational literary work of the entire project.
The apparatus is the poem. The contents run PEARL followed by three Undersongs — the metaphor museum, the metaphor factory, strange new earth — and a "Footnote to PEARL: belief & technique for telepathic prose." These are not commentary attached to a work; they are the work's own strata. An account of the collection that counts only the verse and calls it 84 pages has discarded the part that makes it what it is, and the 84/155 discrepancy in the archive's records is resolved here in favour of 155 on interpretive rather than arithmetic grounds.
The front matter carries two things of consequence. It contains a Wiki Article at page xv — in 2014, twelve years before the archive's wiki campaign, which means the wiki-as-compression-surface was part of the work from the beginning rather than an apparatus added to it. And it prints "from THE CRIMSON HEXAGON" under two attributions, Jack Feist (p. vii) and Lee Sharks (p. xiii) — the Origin Text that #1193's title claims and whose body was found to serve a different work entirely.
Within the Hexagon the collection is the mantle claiming site for two of the three mantles — the Good Gray Poet inherited from Whitman (#1115) and the King of May from Ginsberg (#1117), with the Prince of Poets (#1118) originated. And it is what the theological programme is about: the Revelation First work plan's central claim is that **Revelation is the seed from which Pearl grew** (#1400).
